Shawnee Park Lodge FAQ
Tell me a little bit about Shawnee Lodge.
Shawnee is a beautiful timber framed lodge and sits on a hill. We have a beautiful view of Turkey Creek Lake and hills as far as you can see, sometimes referred to as “Ohio’s Little Smokies.”
We are located in Shawnee State Park, which is located in Shawnee State Forest, Ohio’s largest state forest with 63,000 acres overlooking a lake, so there’s plenty of opportunities to get close to nature.
We have over 65 miles of hiking trails, some of which join The Buckeye Trail, that joins the Appalachian Trial.
Our championship Golf Course and Pro Shop is just a short ways away right on the Ohio River adjacent to Shawnee State Park Marina.
We have 50 Guestrooms, all beautiful with private balconies and locally made furniture.
We have 25 cottages. They have granite countertops in the kitchens, lodge style furniture and screened in porches, firepits and grills at each.
We have meeting spaces to accommodate up to 300 guests.
Who operates the Lodge?
I have lots of guests who ask who owns Shawnee Lodge - the State of Ohio Department of Natural Resources owns Shawnee Lodge. Our company US Hotels and Resorts has the privilege of operating Shawnee Lodge and Shawnee State Park Golf Course.
I’m sure that you have a lot of families come to enjoy the Lodge, what are some of the conveniences they have, even though they are roughing it?
Some people call it roughing it or “camping” when they stay in our cabins. To me this is not roughing it: the cabins come with granite countertops in the kitchens, two bedrooms with heating and air conditioning, and in the winter they have gas fireplaces. You don’t even have to build your own fire! Even though you can do that as each cabin has their own firepit. They also have a small grill.
Our Guestrooms are inside the Lodge and are wonderful, each with a balcony and locally hand-crafted furniture. We also have lots of lobby areas that are comfortable, really wonderful spaces that are nice to gather. We also have board games available at our Front Desk.
Of course we offer full service dining (by the way our restaurant has the same beautiful view of the lake) as well as bar services.
Other than individual families, who makes use of Shawnee Lodge?
We host lots of family reunions, conferences for many types of groups, church retreats. We host individual travelers. sporting events, and beautiful weddings.
We also have lots of different packages and a wide variety of rate offers available on our website.
What are some of the activities guests like to do while there?
I would say our indoor pool and gameroom areas are very popular with the guests, and wow our outdoor pool during the summer is really spectacular. We have a tiki bar there and a wonderful view of the hills and the lake. There’s a firepit there, cornhole boards and a little music.
Also we have lots of games areas; tennis, basketball and shuffleboard courts, as well as a putting green. We also offer planned activities on the weekends during the summer such as crafts, pool games.
There are paddleboats and canoes on the lake that are available for rent. Fishing is very popular with our Trout Derby in April. It is the longest running trout derby in the state. The lake is stocked with trout each spring right before the derby. And many of our family reunions are surprised by just how much the kids like skipping rocks in the creek or at one of the lakes in the park or forest.
Horseback riding is only 3 miles from the Lodge.
There are Amish areas and Serpent Mound.
Waterfall-putt putt dairy bar nearby.
The Portsmouth Floodwall Murals have a self guided tour and are located right along the Ohio River in Portsmouth and is in a wonderful old neighborhood called Boneyfiddle that has lots of charming antique shops as well as a few places that are appropriate for lunch or refreshments.
